There are at present Wehlburgs in Germany,
Holland, South Africa, United States of America, Dubai, and Australia. In fact they can be brought down to four families: The Germans The Dutch The Africans The Americans | |

The Germans
There are not many Wehlburgs left in Germany. This seems
strange after 558 years but can be easily explained. The Wehlburgs were
proper farmers, and the thing a young Wehlburg wanted most in his life was
a farm of his own. As only the youngest son inherited the farm, the other
sons looked for farms elsewhere. Often they succeeded by marrying a
farmers widow or daughter with a farm, after which they changed their name
to the name of the farm, as was the custom of the day. This meant that
only the heirs of "Die Wehlburg" carried the name Wehlburg. |
